Due to a shortage of medical resources and hospital beds in the West
of Ireland, the Galway clinic is being developed to help meet this demand.
The location of this facility has been chosen at Doughiska on the Dublin
Road approaching Galway City, adjacent
to the N6 dual-carriageway; Here it is accessible to a large primary
catchment area with a population of c500,000.
The location of the site ensures that country patients will avoid Galway
City, while Galway's rapidly growing population will enjoy ease of access
avoiding the city traffic. The clinic will be accessed off the Doughiska
round-about.
The design of the Galway Clinic and it's scale will ensure it's status
as a prominent landmark as one approaches Galway from the east. The
high level of visual design is combined with a technologically state
of the art facility housing valuable facilities that will advance medical
treatment in Ireland.
The Galway Clinic consists of a 101 bed hospital and 36 consulting
suites, together with service areas, access roads, surface parking for
360 cars and an extensive landscaping programme. The treatment facilities
include 5 state of the art operating theatres,
day surgery and endoscopic rooms, oncology treatment areas and therapeutic
radiotherapy. The diagnostic equipment includes a cardiac catheter laboratory,
PET, MR and CT scanners, standard X-rays, ultrasound and DEXA scanning,
as well as stress ECG and full laboratory facilities.
The facility is set to provide a one-stop shop for all aspects of medical
and surgical management of patients and provide for both in-patient
care and day-surgery treatment.
Leading practitioners already practicing in the Galway region will
be complemented by medical colleagues returning from leading centres
abroad to provide the most up to date treatment in the world.
